The church was never meant to revolve around our preferences—it exists for the praise of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul confronts division and reminds us that while the perfect church doesn’t exist because perfect people don’t exist, we can be a church pursuing a perfect Christ. Our preferences become a problem when they begin competing with Jesus. True unity isn’t built by minimizing our differences, but by maximizing Christ. The church proclaims Christ, not our preferences.
